1de5d5fJoseph C. Scott is a licensed California attorney, an entrepreneur and a consultant with over 20 years of experience working in the legal vertical. As a recognized legal technology expert, Scott brings his unique perspective on the implementation of innovative technologies to help law firms achieve their business goals. Having served on several industry and company advisory boards, and as an author of numerous articles on legal technologies and risk management, Scott regularly speaks to legal, paralegal and librarian associations across the country illustrating the power that software and Internet-based solutions can provide to law firms.

In his consulting firm, GSS&P Consulting, Scott provides strategic counsel for privately owned companies on growth strategies and tactical direction for their sales, marketing and overall operations. He also continues to provide strategic counsel to law firms and legal associations on how to deploy and effectively utilize emerging technologies to achieve a more powerful, productive and successful law firm operation.

At CompuLaw, as the Vice-President and General Manager, he was part of the ownership and management team that led CompuLaw into a dominant market position. Scott also oversaw the successful launch of CompuLaw’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Deadlines.com, a Web-based version of the CompuLaw initiative that leverages CompuLaw’s expertise and resources in a pay-as-you go format. The company was acquired by a private equity group in August 2011, where Mr. Scott continued on with the new ownership team, playing a key consulting role for the new owners during the transition.

Among Mr. Scott’s significant previous roles, he served as a Senior Account Executive for OneSource Information Services, a Web-based firm specializing in the integration and delivery of optimized business content. He was the Senior Business Development Manager for Legi-Slate, the legislative tracking arm of the Washington Post Company, where he directed strategic planning and new business development. He was the Vice President of NewsBank, a privately-owned $400 million company. At West Publishing Company, the nation’s largest legal publisher at the time, Mr. Scott played a key role in the launch and success of Westlaw and held several key management positions, including Special Counsel and Regional Director of West Coast Operations.

Scott received his Juris Doctorate degree with Dean’s List Honors from Pepperdine University School of Law where he was a member of Pepperdine’s Law Review and received National Moot Court Honors. Mr. Scott graduated with honors while earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from California State University.
